L’Observateur is seeking a community-minded Staff Writer to lead the production of our print and digital products while helping tell the story of one of Louisiana’s most unique and resilient river parishes.

Based in the heart of LaPlace, our newspaper serves a community rich in culture, tradition and opportunity. St. John the Baptist Parish is a vital part of southeast Louisiana, offering a strong sense of community, deep-rooted family traditions and easy access to the New Orleans metropolitan area. From local festivals and high school athletics to parish government, small businesses and the industries that drive the River Region economy, LaPlace is a community that values connection, perseverance and civic involvement. Our writers play a vital role in connecting readers to the people, events and issues that shape daily life across St. John Parish.

Job Summary
The Staff Writer will produce compelling content focused on the news, events and people of LaPlace and St. John the Baptist Parish. This role requires the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, being consistent in updates to the website and social
media platforms, and being available to cover evening and weekend events.

The ideal candidate will have experience in news writing and editing, a strong understanding of AP Style and the ability to produce accurate, engaging community-focused journalism on deadline. Photography experience and the ability to capture
compelling images for print and digital platforms are highly valued. A good eye for newspaper page design and layout is also helpful.

The L’Observateur is part of Carpenter Media Group. We offer a competitive benefits package including 401(k), health, dental, vision, life insurance and paid vacation.

This is an opportunity to live and work in a community where journalism still matters and where your work will have a visible, lasting impact. To apply, send a resumé and three writing samples to robert.blankenship@meridianstar.com.
